Dear Europe, You're Hot, Too Hot - See You in the Fall
Move over tourist stats, the record-setting happening this summer in Europe wasn't reserved for the throngs of tourists in the piazzas, but for the heat on the street!
Paris hit an all-time high temperature in June of 40.9°C (105.6°F) and Barcelona hit that same temperature and milestone in July. And in the strange bedfellow's category,
Sublice, Poland set a 105-year national record with a blistering 41°C (105.8°F), and in Doksany, in the north of the Czech Republic, an all-time high of 40.8°C (105.4°F) was hit in July.
Even Switzerland got in on the act, reaching a record-breaking 38.8°C (101.8°F) in the city of Basel.
We have made no secret of all the reasons we LOVE fall travel, but after this summer, and we were in Paris for the record-setting, we are so ready for sweater weather travel again.
The secret to enjoying optimal travel in Europe in the fall is to wait, just a little bit. You have heard us call November the sweet spot for lower European fares, lower but still pleasant temperatures, and the optimal time for slow travel, and this year might be the best yet.
Why?
Many of Europe's hubs saw lower than expected tourists this summer and the trend going into the fall is that they will be lower still. While jet fuel costs and air fares may still be high, we are seeing hotel pricing get competitive and packages following suit. If you are interested in Mediterranean cruising, we have seen some amazing deals in the last couple of weeks, dramatic discounts we haven't seen in years.
Interestingly, the best deals this fall are discounting the old-faithfuls, London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, and so on.
If you are ready to fall back into European travel, we are standing by to get you there!
